"David and Jean created Hollow Hill with a special belief in mind - that a couple’s wedding day should be a day of happiness with NO STRESS!"
In April 1983, David and Jean Gechter bought 40 acres of the south part of the Tucker Dairy Farm. At that time Mary Drive stopped ½ mile from its beginning on Veal Station Road.
The next year was spent clearing the property of brush and briar and getting David’s dad, Billy Gechter, to put in a road.
The first building constructed was a shed, which is now the dining room of the Event Center.
After that work started on the Gechter’s underground home, a project that only took 27 years to complete! When this construction was going on, Jean was reading a series about Merlin the Magician written by Mary Stewart. One of the books was titled “The Hollow Hills” - and thus the name of the new homestead was created - Hollow Hill Farm.
Over the years other outbuildings were built, including a lean-to shed connected to the original shed and the frame of a barn.
In 2004 Jean retired from teaching and in 2008 David retired from his flying career with American Airlines. By the end of 2009 the house was finished and David was looking for a retirement hobby. For a number of years John Knox Presbyterian Church had been coming out to Hollow Hill Farm for their annual family picnic. Many members had suggested that the Gechters should build a venue so more people could enjoy the beautiful Texas countryside. 2010 saw the beginning of the remodeling of the sheds for Hollow Hill - and the wedding venue was born!
The very first wedding was held in April of 2012. At that time major construction was still in progress. A few other events were booked in 2012, but the second wedding did not take place until March of 2013. That wedding was followed by about 16 other weddings throughout the year.
By 2014 the Event Center was catching on and 70 weddings took place throughout that year!
David and Jean created Hollow Hill with a special belief in mind - that a couple’s wedding day should be a day of happiness with NO STRESS! With that thought, David and Jean continue to look for ways to make Hollow Hill special, stress-free and magical.
